State report card
North Carolina grades every public school A to F. The score is based 80% on student achievement and 20% on academic growth, the state’s 2025-26 annual testing report says. For a high school, achievement also counts end-of-course tests, the ACT or WorkKeys, NC Math 3 and the four-year graduation rate.
| School year | Grade and score | Growth |
|---|---|---|
| 2025-26 | B (72) | Met |
| 2024-25 | B (71) | Exceeded |
The 2025-26 grades come from the state’s accountability data, released in September. From the same data:
- At grade level or above, all state tests: 58.4% (CMS: 60.9%; state: 59.2%)
- College and career ready (Level 4 and above): 35.1%
- Growth: met expected growth
- Four-year graduation rate: 87.7%
The full report card, with attendance, teacher and course data, is on the state’s NC School Report Cards site. On Oct. 11 it still showed the 2024-25 edition.
Attendance zone and feeder schools
CMS assigns students to schools by home address, and zones do not follow city limits. Check an address with the county’s GeoPortal school lookup or the CMS 2026-27 feeder boundaries map.
In CMS’s current assignment data, which lists the zoned schools for every home parcel in Mecklenburg County:
- Middle school zones that feed it: McClintock Middle.
As a magnet school it also takes students from outside the zone through the School Choice lottery. Students have priority for magnet programs in their own transportation zone, the district’s Themes & Schools page says.
Boundary review: CMS is redrawing school boundaries after its 2024 comprehensive review. The final boundary plan goes to the Board of Education on Monday, Oct. 26, with a public hearing Tuesday, Nov. 10, and a board vote Tuesday, Dec. 8, according to the district’s review page. New boundaries had not been approved as of Oct. 11.
