Honor Prep is a tuition-free public charter school for kindergarten to third grade at 9108 Mallard Creek Road. Charter schools are public schools approved by the state but run by their own boards: it is not part of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, has no attendance zone and takes students from anywhere in North Carolina, filling seats by lottery when more students apply than it has room for, as state law requires. It is a bilingual school in the University area: students learn in English and Spanish from the first day, its About page says.

North Carolina grades every public school, charter schools included, A to F. The score is based 80% on student achievement and 20% on academic growth, the state’s 2025-26 annual testing report says.

The state’s 2025-26 grade file lists Honor Prep, which opened in 2025 according to Mecklenburg County’s charter schools map data, with an “I” instead of a letter grade.

The full report card is on the state’s NC School Report Cards site. On Oct. 11 it still showed the 2024-25 edition.
