New Year’s Eve is Thursday, Dec. 31, 2026. New Year’s Day falls on Friday, Jan. 1, 2027, which makes a long weekend for many workers.

CLT NYE at Truist Field

Charlotte’s official New Year’s Eve party, CLT NYE, moved to Truist Field, home of the Charlotte Knights, for Dec. 31, 2024, when Charlotte Center City Partners and the Knights first held it at the ballpark, according to the Knights’ announcement.

As of Oct. 11, the 2026 party had not been announced. Here is what the Knights’ event page listed for the most recent one, on Dec. 31, 2025 (from the CLT NYE page, which still shows that event):

• Began at 8 p.m. and ended after the midnight fireworks.
• Admission included the Knights’ Light the Knights activities, light displays and market.
• A glass of Champagne (21 and up) or apple cider at midnight.
• Live music from Split Second Sound.
• Admission with all activities, including ice skating and snow tubing, was $46.

Uptown Charlotte’s 2025 guide said the skating, snow tubing and vendor market stayed open until 11:30 p.m. that night. We will update this page when the 2026 details are out.

Family “noon” celebrations on Dec. 31

For children who will not make it to midnight, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation lists:

• Sprouts PLAY: New Year Celebration, Thursday, Dec. 31, 10 to 11 a.m., Reedy Creek Nature Center, 2986 Rocky River Road. Free, for ages 3 to 6 (listing).
• Noon Year’s Eve Nature Celebration, Thursday, Dec. 31, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Quest Nature Center, 6345 Sample Road, Huntersville (listing; fee).

Restaurants and bars

Getting home safely

CLT NYE has been held in Uptown, which is served by the LYNX Blue Line light rail and the CityLYNX Gold Line streetcar. Check CATS for the holiday schedule before you go, and plan a ride home if you are drinking.

What is open and closed on New Year’s Day

• Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools: winter break runs Dec. 21 to Jan. 1, according to the 2026-27 calendar (PDF).
• Trash pickup: in 2026, New Year’s Day ran with no delay under the city’s new holiday rules. The city had not posted its 2027 schedule as of Oct. 11; see our trash and recycling guide.
